New York City Chapter Founded in 1917, the Women’s National Book Association (WNBA) is a nonprofit professional organization of women and men who work with and value words. Its volunteers provide educational and charitable services and sponsor several awards. Additionally, WNBA since 1959 has been a DPI/NGO at the United Nations, affiliated with the Department of Public Information. The New York City Chapter (WNBA/NYC) is one of nine WNBA chapters around the United States. We give visibility and support to women in the book world, bring together women and men active in that world, and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. WNBA’a long History reflects the participation of many illustrious figures, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Rachel Carson, Barbara Tuchman, Carolyn Heilbrun, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Pat Schroeder. For more information about the NYC chapter, and local and national leadership, visit About Us. Throughout the year WNBA/NYC sponsors programs at which experts candidly discuss all aspects of the book industry, share insights on the current publishing scene and upcoming changes, and welcome follow-up questions from the audience. To become acquainted with the topics that will be presented this year, visit our Calendar. Our members also make a contribution to literacy programs to help promote learning among children and teenagers throughout the city. Our diverse membership includes publishers, booksellers, writers, editors, librarians, agents, publicists, designers, and professionals in production, marketing, and manufacturing--all from the print, electronic, and Web publishing industry. They enjoy WNBA events open to the public and a variety of Membership Benefits, including the ability to listen to or download streaming audio of past panel programs and the ability to purchase Books authored by members from this Web site. In addition to receiving newsletters and an annual directory, membership in WNBA offers access to our message board, and networking opportunities in formal and informal settings. Additionally, we support members who are authors, freelancers, or business owners by allowing them to promote their businesses on our Web site through links to Member Web Sites. We also nominate recipients for numerous Awards and sponsor panels at BookExpo America. New, current, and former members may Join/Renew at any time during the year. © 2002-2008 Women's National Book Association/New
