How to Join or Renew

If you are a new member, complete the application form and mail in your check to the address on the left.

If you are renewing your membership, you can pay your annual dues with PayPal by selecting your membership category below. Or, you can pay your annual dues via personal check and mail to the address at the left.



One-year membership: Regular Member $50

Membership in WNBA/NYC is open to women and men involved in the world of books. Individual members include publishers, writers, editors, literary agents, booksellers, publicists, designers, illustrators, marketing and production professionals, educators, critics, librarians, and others allied to the book industry.

Active Membership Categories

  • Executive Member: receives, in addition to regular Membership Benefits, special acknowledgment in the WNBA/NYC Directory and newsletter, and is entitled to bring one complimentary guest to chapter events.
  • Regular Member: receives all regular Membership Benefits of the NYC chapter and the National WNBA, is eligible to vote in all local and national WNBA elections, and may serve on the Board of Directors, join or chair a committee, and nominate candidates for offices and for awards.
  • Student Member: joins WNBA/NYC at a discounted rate if enrolled as a half- or full-time student in a degree program at an accredited institution of higher learning, or if a recent graduate with less than six months’ employment in the publishing industry. Student members receive all regular membership benefits.
  • Network Member: is eligible for active membership but is unable to participate in chapter activities because living more than fifty miles from any chapter city. Network members are eligible to vote in all local and national elections, to serve on committees, to attend WNBA functions, and to receive National WNBA publications.
  • Sustaining Member: is a business enterprise—conglomerate, company, firm, nonprofit organization, or other professional entity—that is engaged in any phase of the book trade; is in sympathy with the aims and activities of WNBA; whose annual contribution and benefits are commensurate with those recommended by the National WNBA; and receive acknowledgement on the WNBA/NYC Web site.
  • Honorary Member: renders outstanding service on an individual basis to WNBA/NYC in the opinion of the Board of Directors and receives public acknowledgment at events open to the public and in chapter publications.
  • Sponsor: is a business or organization that offers professional services or contributions to the NYC chapter and receives regular Membership Benefits and acknowledgment in the annual WNBA/NYC Directory and on the WNBA/NYC Web site.
  • Friend: is an individual member who makes an additional contribution to the NYC chapter and receives acknowledgment in the annual WNBA/NYC Directory. Friends are entitled to bring two complimentary guests to chapter events.

More About Membership

New members may join WNBA/NYC at any time.

The membership year runs from September 1 through August 31. Any active Executive, Regular, or Student member who has not renewed by December 1 will be dropped from membership.

Individuals who join as new members after March 31 of any given year will be considered members for the following year.

  • Networking: Joining WNBA makes you part of a dynamic local and national network of publishing professionals, providing valuable contacts and connections that can be beneficial at all stages of your career.
  • Interaction with Newsbreakers: Our monthly panels give you the opportunity to meet and converse with industry leaders you read about in Publishers Weekly and elsewhere.
  • Free Admission to Panels and Social Events: Members can attend without charge any of the panels and several networking events that we sponsor each year and can listen to or download streaming audio of past panels on the Members Only page of this Web site. Members may also bring guests without charge to the annual networking party in September and have access to our regularly updated Web site Calendar of events.
  • Subscription to The Bookwoman: This National WNBA newsletter is published three times a year and reports on book people, institutions, and events in the publishing world.
  • Subscription to The New York Bookwoman: This chapter newsletter includes industry news, profiles of members, opinion pieces, book reviews, and program reviews and summaries.
  • Resource Directory: Member business owners and freelancers may list their services in The New York Bookwoman and on our Web site.
  • Advance Notice of Programs: Members receive timely announcements with program dates, speakers, and background information.
  • Chapter Membership Directory: This networking tool, available only for member use online and in print, lists names, addresses, and professional affiliations of all active members. The print edition also contains the Resource Directory, names and affiliations of local and national boards of directors, honorary members, and local sponsors of WNBA.
  • Community Service Projects: Meet fellow members while making a contribution to our city—our projects traditionally help promote reading and literacy.
  • Membership in National WNBA: Connect with WNBA members in eight other cities across the country. Attend WNBA-related programs and events at the national meetings of the BEA, ALA, and MLA.
