Membership in WNBA-NYC offers one of the best set of benefits of any NYC-based publishing organization. Open to women and men involved in the world of books, individual members include publishers, writers, editors, literary agents, booksellers, publicists, designers, illustrators, marketing and production professionals, educators, critics, librarians, and others allied to the book industry. LEVELS OF MEMBERSHIP
Regular Membership: Benefits include admission to all WNBA events and programs; eligibilty to vote in all local and national WNBA elections; eligible to join chapter committee of the WNBA-NYC board of directors; eligible to nominate candidates for offices and awards. Dues: $50.00 Executive Membership: receives the Regular Membership benefits plus: special acknowledgment in the WNBA-NYC directory and newsletter, and is entitled to bring one complimentary guest to chapter events. Dues: $85.00 Student Membership: Benefits of the Regular Membership at a discounted rate. Eligible if enrolled as a half- or full-time student in a degree program at an accredited institution of higher learning, or if a recent graduate with less than six months’ employment in the publishing industry. Student ID required. Dues: $20.00. Network Membership: For those who live more than 50 miles from any chapter city and are unable to participate in chapter activities. Eligible to vote in all local and national elections, to serve on committees, to attend WNBA functions, and to receive National WNBA publications. Dues: $50.00 MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS Networking: Joining WNBA makes you part of a dynamic local and national network of publishing professionals, providing valuable contacts and connections that can be beneficial at all stages of your career. Free, Reduced and/or Priority Admission to Panels and Social Events: Members can attend any of the panels, workshops, and networking events that we sponsor each year and can listen to or download streaming audio of past panels on the Members Only page of this Web site. Members may also bring guests without charge to the annual networking party in September. Subscription to The Bookwoman: WNBA's National newsletter is published three times a year and reports on book people, institutions, and events in the publishing world. Subscription to the NYC-Chapter newsletter, The New York Bookwoman: Includes industry news, profiles of members, opinion pieces, book reviews, and program reviews and summaries. Chapter Membership Directory: This networking tool—available only to members—lists names, addresses, and professional affiliations of all active members. Membership in National WNBA: Connect with WNBA members in eight other cities across the country. Attend WNBA-related programs and events at the national meetings of the BEA, ALA, and MLA.
The membership year runs from September 1 through August 31, but enrollment is open all year; new members may join at any time. Individuals who join as new members after March 31 of any given year will be considered members for the following year. Membership that start between September and March will be up for renewal in August 31.
